Entremêlant interrogations incertaines, intuitions intermittentes, aperçus momentanés, Andreas Georgallides aborde ici avec grande finesse le caractère provisoire du monde matériel et l’instabilité de toute identité individuelle. Une blancheur silencieuse suggère, toutefois, la lueur d’une philosophie fragile, d’une spiritualité ténue. La plume précise du poète multiplie les associations d’images, de couleurs et de mots inattendus, qui embellissent la formulation d’observations astucieuses concernant, par exemple, la prolifération d’hypothèses contestables et d’objets inutiles. Voici aussi, présence récurrente et ironiquement nostalgique, un jeune homme studieux, en dialogue avec Brentano et Husserl, qui sillonne la Rive gauche et salue un penseur imposant, élevé sur un piédestal. Une soif de vérité persiste jusqu’au temps présent et il en résulte une suite d’inscriptions lapidaires, telles des vestiges d’une époque révolue, qui fixe déjà une certaine attitude, en attendant le déchiffrement que proposeront les philologues futurs.

This collection of the tentative interrogations, flickering intuitions and flashes of perception subtly intimates the shifting, transient nature of our environment and identities, where whiteness and silence suggest inchoate spirituality or allow a tenuous philosophy to fade into view. Deft turns of phrase strengthen witty observations on the intrusive weight of proliferating things, but they also engender the vivid appearance of mismatched words, colours and enigmatic objects. Among them appear ironically nostalgic shots of an earnestly intellectual Left-Bank student, back in the days when Brentano and Husserl perhaps offered comfort and you could look up to a muscular thinker, cast in bronze and raised on a pedestal. The appetite for truth still lingers, however. These brief inscriptions have survived the here and now, preserving uncertainty, waiting to be deciphered by a future philologist.
